If you played carefully through Blizzard's most recent real-time strategy game, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, you may have stumbled across a special treat: a secret tower defense level. It's not so surprising really ' tower defense games have become a popular subset of RTS games, and tower defense mods appear in pretty much any RTS game with a map editor. There's been no word on whether or not Blizzard will include another tower defense scenario in their upcoming and highly anticipated Starcraft 2, but as it turns out, someone else has already started working with that idea.

A small development team has recently unveiled their upcoming project: Starcraft 2 Flash Tower Defense. The project has been in development for over a year, and they've just begun showing off the fruits of their labors. The final game is slated to offer 5 different types of towers with which to wreak havoc on wave after wave of hapless enemy units. Over the course of 49 levels, you'll have to blast through 16 different types of units (although to be fair, some of them are just palette swaps of others), earning more cash so you can build more towers and cause more carnage.

The graphics look to be pretty genuine representations of Starcraft 2's look, with both the units and maps looking pretty spot on to what we've seen from the actual game. There's no known release date for Starcraft 2 Flash Tower Defense as of yet. Hopefully, we'll see it released before too long, giving us another way to get our Starcraft fix while we wait for the actual game to launch.
